In December 2018, a Costa Rica team, led by Lisandro Martinez – a PHP certified engineer, WordPress, and Ethereum enthusiast – started to develop a plugin that combines the power of Ethereum and WordPress. On June 17, 2019, the team released version 1.0.0 of the WPSmartContracts plugin with three ERC-20 contract flavors. 

On December 27, 2019: the WPSmartContracts plugin version 1.1.0 was released with Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) Smart Contracts support.
